Dissolution of Marriage / Civil Union

Dissolution of Marriage / Civil Union

Dissolution of a marriage or civil union (also known as divorce) is the legal termination of a marriage/civil union.
In order to obtain a dissolution of your marriage or civil union in New Zealand the parties must be separated for a period of two years or more and one of the parties must be domiciled in New Zealand.
A dissolution is obtained by application to the Family Court either by one party on their own or by both parties together.
Provided the necessary information and documentation can be supplied, we can efficiently prepare and, where a single application is chosen, arrange for service of dissolution applications whether the parties are based in New Zealand or overseas.

If you have not been separated for the two years required to make an application then there may be other things that we can assist you with in the meantime such as division of relationship property and care arrangements for your children.
